When I was a kid I always liked the cranberry sauce that came in a round metal can. It always plopped on the plate standing upright looking just like the can. To this day I still have a soft spot for the ever so traditional cranberry sauce. This year I wanted to try something other than the canned sauce and try something with less or no refined sugar if possible.
About a month ago I was at the farmers market and saw a fruit that looked similar to an apple but shaped a little differently. I was told that the fruit was quince. Quince is a very dry fruit but you can use it as natural fruit pectin in jam, in tarts, sorbet, or my cranberry sauce. It can be a little hard to find but you should be able to find it at your local farmers market or a Whole Foods Market.
Isn’t quince such a beautiful fruit?
This is such a simple and flavorful sauce. All you do is throw everything in a saucepan and let it cook down for a few short minutes.
I hope you enjoy this as much as my family!
