I know, I know, you might be thinking what’s wrong with her?! Doesn’t she know it’s still winter and the sun doesn’t shine around here until June. Or, if you’re in the NW, that doesn’t happen until July 4th. 😉 Hey now, it’s sunny in So Cal and citrus is at it’s peak around here. You can thank me later after you try this Citrus Lime Soda I salivate over (it’s really true) just thinking about.
Soda is one of those things I don’t buy for my family because of all the sugar it contains. Sure, I have an occasional soda to get my craving fix if we are out eating somewhere. If we do have soda in our house though, it’s Zevia. It’s sweetened with stevia and free of dyes and GMO’s that most soda contains. Blah blah blah! Sorry for my soda rant! Can we make some soda now please?!
Have you ever had anything with tangelo and lime together? I hadn’t until making this soda and the two together are a match made in heaven! They are tart with a slight sweetness in the tangelo but the honey is such a great balance. It helps cut through the tartness with just the right amount of sweetness.
The citrus honey simple syrup takes about 10-15 minutes of prep and then it’s the waiting game for it to cool. Pour the syrup into a glassful of ice and mix with seltzer water and that’s it! My son wouldn’t stop saying, “me want more soda,” as he would guzzle it down with a straw. I had to cut the poor kid off so there wouldn’t be any accidents in bed that night! Sorry, TMI!
Guys, this recipe is a keeper! I am going to buy a giant box of tangelos and limes this weekend so I can freeze the simple syrup and enjoy these sodas all summer long. Cheers to citrus soda and sunny days ahead!
