Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. My name is Valerie and I am wife to a pastor and mama to a sassy little three-year-old boy. My family and I recently relocated from Portland, Oregon to a small town in Southern California. I started cooking at a young age, which over time evolved into a passion and love for cooking.
My family and I try to eat as many meals together during the week as possible. Let’s be real, life gets busy sometimes and it’s important to stop, gather around the table, have conversation, and enjoy a good home cooked meal together. Part of the reason I enjoy cooking so much is the people I get to share my food with, whether it be my own family or friends. A crowd with good conversation around the table makes my heart happy and full!
Let me expand a little more about the blog. I test the recipes, (my husband and son help with the taste testing), take photos, and do the writing. My husband takes care of all the tech stuff and cleans my kitchen messes from recipe testing (thanks honey). I love a punch of flavor in food so if a recipe turns out mediocre it is testing again until I get the, “that’s really good” from my husband and a, “yummy mama, me have more” from my son.
Some of the typical food you might see on our dining room table and blog are veggies and fruit in season from our local farmers market. There is also usually some sort of chicken dish and we try and eat gluten free (but not strictly) a few times a week. Most of my desserts are refined sugar free. I prefer to use natural sweeteners as my son is crazy enough without the real thing. We do however use the real thing from time to time. We also try to stick with a mostly organic diet whenever possible.
A few things (besides cooking) that I enjoy doing is camping with flushing toilets and showers within walking distance of our campsite. I also enjoy kayaking, gardening (currently attempting with fingers crossed), fishing, long walks on the beach, watching my husband surf, traveling, and photography. Last but not least, I LOVE spending time with my family.
I hope you enjoy my blog and the recipes I share with you!
